Description

Zephyr Macabee is seen standing second from the left in this 1887 photograph of his "Royal Shaving Parlor" barber shop. The location was the hotel building constructed that year by Judge Benjamin P. Rankin on the north side of Main Street at the west end of the bridge. In addition to Macabee's establishment, the Post Office, a restaurant and a cigar stand occupied the first floor, while the second floor was called the "French Hotel." The building burned to the ground in the early morning hours of June 14, 1899. It was later replaced by the Montezuma Block.
