WAR004Description
Long before it was known as "Santa Clara Valley," the land was covered by a majestic oak forest. The Spaniards began to cut the oaks in order to plant crops and graze their cattle and horses. Then the Americans arrived and planted wheat. This is a rare photograph of a wheat field in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It belonged to Gustave Hueter and was located on his 400-acre "Mountain Springs Ranch" - now the site of Redwood Estates. WAR004Collection
