This building at 14 University Ave. was constructed in 1903 with a $10,000 Carnegie grant providing a major part of the funding. The library replaced the 1898 reading rooms located in the L. A. Wilder store on the south side of Main Street, west of the Bridge. That library was described as "on stilts, over the creek." LGL001
