1871-1930's FlumeEntry/Object ID
MTN099Description
In 1871, a wooden flume was built along the east bank of Cats' Canyon in order to pick up water at Jones Dam above Alma and bring it to Los Gatos. While "flume walking" was not built into the design of the structure, it was a popular activity. Sometimes the flume was called "Lovers' Lane." Encounters with wild cats and skunks were frequent. The three-mile long flume was replaced by a galvanized steel aqueduct in the 1930s. MTN099Subject
