Description

Daniel and Sarah McCoy are posed in front of their home at 201 Johnson Avenue in Los Gatos, on the wagon Daniel used in his long career as a teamster. On May 8, 1903, a short article appeared in the San Jose Mercury News which reported this news: "Dan McCoy, who has the contract for sprinkling Santa Cruz Avenue from Los Gatos to Lexington, met with quite a misfortune yesterday while attending to his work. He stopped for a few moments and on starting up his team one of the horses fell to the ground dead. He is quite unable to account for the accident, as the horse was well when he started out so far as he knew, and no hard work had been done." Even at the age of 82 years, "Dan" McCoy took great pride in raising fine horses, which he learned to love when a young man, and which he was still able to drive with the greatest ease and pleasure.
