CHARLES DE FREITAS 1970 - 1971 Charles De Freitas was born in Tracy on March 31, 1922. He is a graduate of San Jose State University. He served in the Armed Forces from 1943 to 1946 and has a degree in dentistry from the University of California. He and his wife, Wilma, arrived in Los Gatos in 1951 with their eldest son, Matthew. Their two daughters, Martha and Deborah, were born in Los Gatos. De Freitas has been a dentist in Los Gatos for 33 years. From 1959 to 1966, he served on the Town Planning Commission and as its chairman from 1964 to 1965. From 1966 to 1974, he served on the Town Council and as mayor during 1970 and 1971. He was known as the "environmentalist" on the Council and while he was mayor, he was credited with maintaining a fair tax base for homeowners. PE232
