Description

The apricot pit industry was located in the Vasona Park area and operated by the Sewell S. Brown Company. Apricot pits were dried in the open, then taken by a conveyor system into the plant for cracking. The kernels were sent to Europe, where they were used in the manufacture of almond and apricot kernel paste, which was used in cakes, candies, and cookies. In 1931, the apricot pit brought the grower as much money per ton as did the ripe fruit. AG017
