AD006Scope and Content
This is the program cover from a week-long festival held in Los Gatos, May 30 - June 5, 1919. The first Chautauqua in Los Gatos was held in 1916. A season ticket cost $2.50, plus war tax. On the afternoon of May 30, 1918, William Jennings Bryan delivered a patriotic speech in a tent that could accommodate 1,400 people, located on a vacant lot at No. Santa Cruz and Royce Avenues. By 1924, interest in Chautauqua had waned, and Los Gatos concentrated on its summer pageants. AD006Collection
