Description

The photograph shows the "prune dipper" on the Rawlings ranch, located "in the country, half way between Los Gatos and San Jose." Prunes were dipped in scalding water and lye to tenderize the skins. The ranch was located near the present site of Pearl Avenue, and owned by George Snodgrass Rawlings (1843 - 1934). John A. Rawlings (b. 1876) is pictured at center. BER023
