BER031Description
This is the 1882 wooden Main Street Bridge. When this structure opened for horse-and-buggy traffic in May, 1882, the whole town turned out for a celebration. In little over a year, this became known as "Hangman's Bridge," when a Californio was lynched by a local vigilance committee on Sunday afternoon, June 17, 1883. BER031Collection
