BER033Description
The first mention of a hotel at the corner of East Main Street and Pleasant Street occurred in 1877, when Charles M. Parr was murdered in front of the Coleman House, the small two-story structure at the far left in this photograph. In 1889, the little hotel (then called the Alpine House) was moved back and turned partly around to accommodate the addition seen here. The hotel was renamed the Rockhaven, later the El Monte Hotel.
