Description

Frank Knowles, Jr., left, son of Dr. Frank W. Knowles (1858-1936) with his neighbor Fred Bergtold. The Knowleses were neighbors of the Bergtolds at Placer Oaks Ranch. Dr.Knowles had one of the original mill stones from Forbes Mill hauled by mule along the bank of Los Gatos Creek to his residence on San Jose Avenue, where it was embedded in the back porch landing. Lyman Bergtold, Fred's younger brother, removed the stone from the landing after the Knowles home was moved to another location, courtesy of new owners Ted Reed and Jerry Graham, and took it to his residence, where it remained until it was donated by the Bergtold family to the Forbes Mill Museum. bgf003
