BDG093Description
The Toll House, shown here in 2004, is a Los Gatos landmark. Joseph Johnson and Peter Davidson paid the first toll on the road to the summit on May 5, 1858. James Kennedy built the first Toll House in 1867. The building has undergone major reconstruction through the years, and was even disassembled and then restored in 1994. Now a part of the Toll House Hotel complex, thousands of vehicles pass by each day, replacements for the stagecoaches and wagons, mounted riders, foot travelers, and pack trains of earlier times.
