CHS006Description
Bound for the cement kilns above Cupertino, the Permanente Local drifts past orchards along Wedgewood Avenue on the Mayfield Cut-Off. The local, typically based from San Jose's Newhall Yard, would follow the cut-off to Simla Junction near Monta Vista where it would split onto Kaiser Cement Corporation's privately owned, 1.7 mile spur. Opened in 1939, the plant remains active today, justifying Union Pacific's continued operation of the Permanente Local. CHS006Collection
