Description

Church Street, near Forbes Mill. The Presbyterian Church was founded in Los Gatos in 1881. The Church held services in Lyndon Hall until the McMillan home, just above Forbes Mill, was converted to a small chapel. A Sunday School commenced on July 17, 1881. This church was dedicated on May 5, 1885. It cost $5,000, including furniture, organ, chairs, carpets, chandelier, fence and sheds. During the period of 1937 - 1939, the original church was modernized. The decaying steeple was removed and the opera seats were replaced with pews. The membership grew, and in 1948, a five acre tract on Shannon Road was purchased for $7,500. A Fellowship Hall was constructed first and dedicated in 1953. It served as a sanctuary until the new sanctuary was completed and dedicated in 1958. CH023
