Description

The first St. Luke's Episcopal Church was constructed in 1883 on School Street (University Avenue) on land donated by Mrs. John Lyndon. Mrs. Thomas Evans, the mother of Mrs. F. H. McCullough, visited Los Gatos and decided to ask her own home parish, St. Luke's in Germantown, PA, to assist the new church with donations of Bibles, prayer books, hymnals and furniture. Unfortunately, the first church was a victim of the devastating 1901 town fire. The church was rebuilt and back in operation by 1903. The town fire bell is in the background of this photograph.
