Description

Martha Cilker (1868-1950) taught in the new high school addition to the old Los Gatos Central School in the 1890s. She was one of the town's first high school instructors, and was known as a teacher who set high standards for her students. She was the daughter of Los Gatos pioneers John Cilker (1833 - 1909), a native of Germany, and Ann Jane Lipsett Cilker (b. 1847), who immigrated alone to Canada at age 18. The Cilkers settled near Los Gatos in 1867, and called their home Aurora Farm. PE019
