Floyd N. Curtis was the son of George G. and Rosa Nevil Curtis. He was born in Loveland, Colorado in 1894, and came to Los Gatos with his family in 1901. He graduated from Los Gatos High School. In 1915, he began the first shuttle bus service between San Jose and Los Gatos. A June 24, 1920 article in the San Jose Evening News stated: "George A. Curtis and Floyd N. Curtis, in a joint application filed with the railroad commission today, ask for authority to transfer and sell the auto stage line they are now operating between San Jose, Campbell, and Los Gatos and intermediate points, to W. W. Monk and others. The price fixed is $8,200." On August 31, 1920, the Mercury Herald reported "Mr. Floyd Curtis has opened up a very attractive sales room for the Dodge car in what was formally the Ideal Restaurant. The place has been done over in a delicate gray tint which is very pretty. George Curtis will open a salesroom in Mountain View for the same car. He will live in Los Gatos for the present." In 1925, a certificate of co-partnership was filed by Paul Edward Curtis and Floyd N. Curtis, operators of the Curtis Bros. Hardware Store in Los Gatos. Curtis Brothers Hardware later became Los Gatos Hardware. Floyd was also the owner of the United Cigar Store, which he operated until he retired in 1959. The 1930 U.S. Census shows that Floyd N. Curtis, age 36, was married to Edna J. Curtis, age 35. Their two children were Eleanor E. Curtis, age 12 and Robert F. Curtis, age 10. Floyd died at his Los Gatos home, 212 Caldwell Avenue, in December, 1961 after an extended illness. He was 67. CUR017Collection
