Description

Cartoonish watercolor depicting the land sale at Redwood Estates. Paul Curtis, Sr. was the manager of Redwood Estates. The land had been owned by Gustav Heuter, a paint manufacturer from San Francisco, who maintained a country home on his "Mountain Springs Ranch," and grew wheat on the land. Unfortunately, Heuter was shot dead by his young wife Kate in 1905. The entrance to Redwood Estates on the old Los Gatos-Santa Cruz Highway was marked by a 15-foot high Dutch windmill. Many on their way to Santa Cruz stopped in and became land owners. CUR018
