DIS010Description
Bob Bryant, who was appointed Parks Director in 1968, is shown here with the town fire bell. The 2500 pound bell was installed in 1899 and served as part of the fire alarm system. It was mounted on a wooden tower located on Santa Cruz Avenue near the Lyndon Hotel. The tower burned in the 1901 fire and the bell fell to the ground, sustaining three cracks. The bell is now located in front of the Art Museum. DIS010Collection
