JAMES JOHN STANFIELD 1918 - 1919 James John Stanfield was born on Union Avenue in the Union District, Santa C1ara County (considered part of Los Gatos) on August 12, 1861. He attended Union District schools and graduated from the San Jose Business College College in 1883. He was a banker and an orchardist. He was associated with the Bank of Los Gatos from its beginning in 1883 as a director, vice president, and cashier. From 1913 to 1930, he served as a director of the First National Bank of Los Gatos. Stanfield married Susan Maria Place. They had two children -- John Harold and Helen. Both were born in their home on Cleland Avenue. His father was a pioneer settler in the Union District in the County, who served as town treasurer of Los Gatos from 1894 to 1896. From 1914 to 1919, Stanfield served as a town trustee and as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the town of Los Gatos from 1918 to 1919 (a position equivalent to that of a mayor).
