MUS010Description
This lovely photograph of the old mill at the end of a country lane captures the peaceful rural setting of early Los Gatos. Dr. McMurtry's red house, also known as the "old mill house," stood just up the hill on Main Street. It was the first real house constructed in Los Gatos. During the 1860s, the town grew to include a blacksmith shop, a lumber yard, a few scattered homes and shanties, a store, a school, the First Methodist Church, and the Ten Mile House - a combination hotel, saloon, post office and stage depot.
