Lexington School 1910Entry/Object ID
FRA009Description
Founded in 1859, Lexington School was the first to be established in the area. John Pennell Henning, owner of two lumber mills in the redwoods near Lexington, donated the lumber for the school and for a temperance hall that was built near Alma. This photograph was taken shortly before the first Lexington School was demolished and rebuilt in Alma in 1913, because by that time Alma was a busier place. In 1953, Lexington School opened its doors on its present five-acre site above the Alma Fire Station. FRA009Collection
