First electric lights in Los Gatos were installed at the Los Gatos Manufacturing Company on January 31, 1891. The first electric light pole was erected on the north side of West Main Street, opposite Oak Street (Montebello Way). The street lights were turned on June 24, 1896. Power for the street lights was generated and transmitted by the Hume Ranch on Glen Una Drive. The Commercial Bank building across the street burned in 1901, and was replaced by the Rankin Block in 1904. HC077Collection
