The Coleman House, the two-story boarding house and saloon pictured at the far left, was the first iteration of what later became the El Monte Hotel. In 1877, 33-year-old Charles Parr, son of Jonathan and Eliza Jane Parr, argued with three "Spaniards" in front of the Coleman House and was murdered. HOT038Collection
