BRG009Description
View of the stone bridge to the west. In the background are the town fire bell tower and the tower of University Avenue school. This Main Street Bridge was built in 1906 at a cost of approximately $27,000. Plans for a dedication celebration and barbeque on May 1, 1906 were canceled after the earthquake of April 18 struck. However, the bridge was not damaged and opened without the celebration. The bridge, constructed of concrete and rubble stone, was taken down with the help of dynamite in 1954 to make way for Highway 17. BRG009Subject
