Description

View of the 1906 Main Street Bridge from the creek. The bridge was 180 feet long and 50 feet high. J. G. McMillan was the civil engineer in charge of the project. Mr. McMillan spent his boyhood in Butte County and went to school there and in San Jose. At the age of sixteen he commenced teaching school, and spent his summers studying civil engineering. In 1886 he located in Mayfield to take charge of the engineering work connected with the building and grounds of Stanford University. BRG010
