Driving the Golden Spike

Name/Title

Driving the Golden Spike

Entry/Object ID

JON037

Description

Acquiring rail from fruit dry yards across Santa Clara Valley, the Jones family and friends built a winding pike for the 2-Spot around the Daves Avenue prune orchard. Billy Jones' hunt for rolling stock and expertise led him to Louis M. MacDermot, builder of the 1/3-scale, 19-inch gauge Overfair Railway at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. On October 16, 1943, MacDermot, pictured to the left of Jones, had the honor of driving the golden spike on the Wildcat Railroad. JON037
