Daniel Wells McGrady (right), a Civil War veteran, was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio on December 6, 1843, and by age 15 was working as a shoemaker. His father was Daniel McGrady, born in Scotland, and his mother was Amy Gardner, born in New York. Wells married July B. Weber (1858-1907), born in Louisiana, and the couple had five children, including twins, Geraldine and Genevieve. The family moved to Los Gatos in 1898, where McGrady produced beautiful soft-turned soles and gaiters. He loved to sing the old Civil War songs such as "Marching Through Georgia" and "Potomac Bells." He is buried in Los Gatos Cemetary. JON042Collection
