JON046Description
This is the one-room schoolhouse at Wrights where Geraldine McGrady was teaching when she met her future husband, Billy Jones. In her memoirs she wrote "In 1914 I received my first appointment. I was engaged as teacher at Wrights Station in the Santa Cruz Mountains. I was the first teacher there, as it was a new district, and I felt quite important but I wanted to make good and resolved to be a good teacher. The children were of various ages ranging from first to seventh grade and two of the boys were bigger than I. I boarded at the Hotel and went home over weekends, and I was the only lady there most of the time." JON046Collection
