JON120Description
Volunteers construct the original 25-foot turntable at oak Meadow Park, used from 1970-1996. The Seabees, a U.S. Navy construction battalion, assisted in its creation, and Bill Mason and his wife, Kamille, often prepared lunch for the laborers. The cooks, or "Lizard Scorchers" in railroad terminology, once triggered a false alarm for the local fire department, whose hoses rained down on Mason's smoked salmon lunch. JON120Collection
