This view is from the rear of the hotel, on the west side of Pleasant Street, looking southward toward Main Street. The hotel's owner, Mrs. W.W. Gray, carried only $5,000 of insurance on the building, and it was never rebuilt. The El Monte was the hotel of choice for Ambrose Bierce when he visited Los Gatos in the 1890s. DIS023Subject
