The El Monte Hotel (1891-1909) was located on the northeast corner of East Main and Pleasant Streets. It featured 500 feet of porches, ten feet wide, and was considered quite luxurious in its time. Social events were attended by the elite in full evening dress. The hotel was targeted several times by arsonists and burned to the ground July 3, 1909. DIS026Subject
