John Cilker was born in 1833 in Germany and came to the United States as an infant. He was orphaned at age eight. In 1867 he married Ann Jane Lipsett, a native of County Donegal, Ireland. That same year the young couple homesteaded 174 acres about two miles northeast of a tiny settlement named Los Gatos. They called their home "Aurora Farm." He was a talented horticulturalist. CLK005b
