William (Bill) Cosgrave Balch (1910-2005), the son of former town mayor Dean Balch, lived his whole life in Los Gatos. He was nearly 95 years old at the time of his death. He was raised on a seven-acre parcel bordered by Los Gatos-Saratoga Road and Massol and Bachman Avenues. The house where he was born still stands, but has been divided into apartments. He appeared in the 1921 Los Gatos Pageant. After graduating from Whittier College, he joined his father at the First National Bank of Los Gatos in 1942. He retired from Los Gatos Wells Fargo Bank in 1962. He served on the board of trustees for Good Samaritan Hospital. His grandfather, William D. Balch (b. 1855), was a banker in Charles City, Iowa.
