BAL035Description
Don Case is shown sitting on the broad stairway leading to one of the houses at the Balch/Case compound. He and Mary and Bill Balch had a private school and teacher during their early elementary years, and later moved on to University Avenue School. A 1919 story in the San Jose Mercury Herald told this story: "No happier or merrier group could be found in all the land than the one at the James A. Case home in Los Gatos on Tuesday evening. The host and hostess radiated happiness, for were not "our boys" all home safe and sound from service in camp and overseas. The boys too were happy to be back in the home town and be guests of these friends who have followed them in thought and deed during the long, weary struggle, while other invited guests joined in the merriment and good cheer, making an evening long to be remembered."
