Description

In 1905, two pioneer Los Gatos bankers, Dean Balch and James A. Case, bought land at Massol and Saratoga Avenues and created a magical compound where their families lived in a beautiful and peaceful setting. Their children raised an assortment of animals, played in the creek, and explored the orchards and gardens. This was the entrance, lined with orange trees, into the Balch and Case compound from Massol Avenue. The stone pillars still stand today. Balch and Case purchased the land from Frank H. McCullough.
