LAW001Description
The "sweatbox" jail that so briefly held Incarnation Garcia in 1883 burned down in 1896. This two-room accommodation, which faced Pageant Way and served from 1934 - 1965, was constructed mostly to care for "the drunks arriving on the late cars" at the railroad station. Because of their condition, they couldn't be taken to their homes, and the county jail was too far away. It also served as a holding cell for minor infractions. Children sometimes peeked through the bars of this little jail to "see the bad guys." LAW001Collection
