LAW004Description
Police Chief Ralph Phillips (1905-1981) served the longest tenure as police chief in Los Gatos history, 27 years, from 1943 to 1970. After he graduated from Los Gatos High School, he worked at the old Bailey Lumber Company on south Santa Cruz Avenue and intended to make that his career. He joined the police force in 1932 when the opportunity came along, thinking it would be steady work, especially in the depression years. Thirty-seven years later he retired. LAW004Collection
