GEORGE WEBSTER TURNER 1910 - 1912 George Webster Turner was born on November 25, 1860 in San Francisco. His paternal ancestor was John Turner, who sailed on the Mayflower to Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1620. His father, Cephas Turner, came to California from Massachusetts in 1849 to search for gold. Turner arrived in Los Gatos in 1908. He married Harriet Chapman. They had two daughters, Enid and Ruth. Before moving to Los Gatos, he was in realty and insurance. In 1911, he was employed by the Los Gatos Telephone Company and rose to become its president. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the town of Los Gatos from 1910 to 1914, and served as chairman (a position equivalent to that of a mayor) from 1910 to 1912. During his term of office, the City Hall was constructed, the sewer system installed, and the streets paved. Turner died in 1925. PE246Collection
