Route of the SPC and SP Railroads: the south portal of the Eccles TunnelEntry/Object ID
LEI072Description
Until 1940 this was the south portal of the Eccles Tunnel on the right-of-way of the South Pacific Coast and later the Southern Pacific railroads. In 1954 the abandoned tunnel was converted into a storage facility with 18 inch concrete and allegedly able to withstand an "atomic holocaust". The Walt Disney Company, IBM, and The Rolling Stone are said to have documents in storage here. LEI072Collection
