The California Ladies Band was organized by Fred Brohaska in 1898. The all-female band was a novel and daring departure for the time, and included many members from Los Gatos. The band appeared at The Pavilion (at the Los Gatos Cannery) on North Santa Cruz Avenue in 1900, and in 1901 they performed for President McKinley when he visited San Jose.
