Description

Ruth Comfort Mitchell Young (1882-1954) was a successful playwright, novelist, poet, and short story writer. She lived with her husband, State Senator Sanborn Young, at Yung See San Fong, their Asian-style home on Cypress Way. Here she is with her pets, Gow Moy, the deer Lo Lo Mi, Beaver Dick, and Trek, The Gentleman Dog. She is best known for her novel "Of Human Kindness," which she wrote as a counterpoint to John Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath." She wanted to tell the landowners' side of the story. PE027
