John Fox, poundmaster, is pictured in July, 1954, with a three-foot rattlesnake which he killed only a few feet from the back porch of a house on Kennedy Road. The local newspaper reported the snake had seven rattles. Newspaperman John Baggerly liked to recall a dog named Black Barney, who was often seen in the 1950s riding around town with the poundmaster. Fox knew the dogs of the town by name and gave them a lift or sent them in the direction of home when he found them out wandering. PE100Collection
