Description

Admiral Thomas B. Inglis moved to Monte Sereno in 1951, after his retirement from the U.S. Navy. He settled with his family on what was then county land and was looking forward to a quiet retirement. (He had been Chief of Naval Intelligence from 1945 - 1949). But fearing that Los Gatos would try to annex Monte Sereno, he led the campaign to incorporate Monte Sereno as a separate community, and he became its first mayor after its incorporation in 1957. In 1968, he led the campaign to have Highway 9 declared a scenic corridor. PE102
