Description

This photograph was taken at Los Gatos Creek near the old concrete and rubble-stone Main Street Bridge. Constructed in 1906, the stone bridge stood until 1954, when it was removed in favor of Highway 17. Ed Briggs was born in 1900 and graduated from Los Gatos High School in 1918. His father owned E. E. Briggs grocery store, 18 W. Main St., which was located in the Montezuma Block between University Avenue and the bridge. Many Los Gatans took the opportunity, before the old bridge was brought down by dynamite in 1954, to have a photograph taken near the landmark. Ed was a member of the local Mandolin Club, which performed at the Strand Theater in 1918 under the direction of Miss Mabel Laderick. PE105
