Description

Royal Newell Francis born December 25th 1886 was an early aviator. His parents Octave Francis and mother Adelaide Charlotte "La Mountagne" Francis were ranch owners in Los Gatos in the late 1800s into the 20th century. Roy died in 1952. Their son Roy worked with "Sky High" Irving as a bookable act at county fairs. Irving would parachute from Irving's plane to the excitement of spectators around the year 1915. In this photograph we see him racing an automobile which was another performance he would put on at county fairs. Clyde Arbuckle wrote more about Roy Francis in his 1986 book, "History of San Jose."
