RES140Description
Built in 1895 in the Queen Anne style, this property originally extended in the back to Bella Vista Ave. Elias and Clara P. Holladay lived here from 1900 to 1920. John and Mary Hayes owned the home from 1920 to about 1934. Dr. and Mrs. Elton Hogg purchased the home in 1940 and divided it into apartments. When Dr. Hogg died in 1955, his widow moved from Saratoga to one of the apartments here. Harry and June Fromm purchased the home in 1970 and had done significant restoration, earning a Bellringer award in 1976. The house sustained major damage in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and was subsequently demolished. In 1993 it was rebuilt, and, although not an exact replica, the new structure evokes many of the same features and details of the original. The newly constructed house was part of the 1999 Los Gatos Historic Homes Tour. SEE ALSO: Historic Homes Tour Programs. RES140Collection
