Description

John Steinbeck and his wife, Carol, lived in a house on Greenwood Lane in Monte Sereno from 1936-1938. This is probably the house they built on Brush Rd. in the Santa Cruz Mountains above Los Gatos in 1938-39, after the publication of The Grapes of Wrath, which he wrote in the Greenwood Lane house. The property on Brush Rd. consisted of 47 acres with a spring, a forest, orchard and a pasture, and was "one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen" according to Steinbeck. RES205
