Description

Built [ca.1885] for Backus Bartlett by architect J. O. McKee. The original property consisted of over 22 acres between San Jose Ave. (Los Gatos Blvd.) and Los Gatos Creek. The house originally faced San Jose Ave. The property was eventually subdivided and the house oriented toward Bella Vista. There have been approximately 10 owners since the house was built, and there have been many additions, but all were done in keeping with the original style. When Joseph Mayer was owner in 1976, the house was awarded a Bellringer plaque. In 2000 the house was featured on the Los Gatos Museums Historic Homes tour. SEE ALSO: Historic Homes Tour Programs.
